Thymes Fragrance Profile

Dominant fragrance family

Our artisan perfumer composes with scent to create complex, intriguingly layered perfume-quality fragrances. Each fragrance is built around a central characteristic, or dominant fragrance family, which expresses its most essential personality. This family is the largest circle in our fragrance diagram.

Sub-families

Lending nuance and complexity to Thymes fragrances, sub-families describe the aromatic notes used to enliven each scent. Sub-families complement the dominant fragrance family, pique attention and enhance a fragrance’s character; they may even lend a surprising note. Sub-families are represented by the smaller circles.

Welcome to the Thymes Fragrance Studio

The Thymes Fragrance Studio is an online portal to your favorite Thymes fragrances. Clearly, the best way to experience fragrance is in person. Still, we aim to offer you a rich, immersive experience right here, one we hope will educate you about our unique compositions and enhance how you perceive and enjoy fragrance in your world.

Fragrance 101

Have you ever smelled an aroma that sent you instantly back in time to a specific place or person? A moment that stopped you in your tracks, sniffing aromatic tendrils in the air, as a cascade of memories washes over you? Fragrance is that powerful. That’s because fragrance taps into areas of the brain that are intimately connected to memory and personal experience.

Of course, sometimes people prefer certain fragrances just because they like them—which is great too! Whatever the reason, many people find themselves drawn to particular aromatic types. In the perfume industry, the standard approach for defining these types is to break them out by their top, middle and base notes.

Thymes Approach

We’ve grouped our fragrances into dominant families and sub-families—for visual thinkers, those colored bubbles you see on your screen. We’ve designed this approach to give you the best, most descriptive idea of what the fragrance smells like. Our hope is that your understanding of a fragrance will come just short of actually smelling it in person. And for those interested in learning more about fragrance, it’ll provide you with interesting insight about the notes we’ve chosen.

Thymes Fragrance Families

At Thymes, our fragrances fall into 1 or more of 7 dominant families/sub-families. If you like fragrances in a particular family, chances are good you’ll like another fragrance in that family.

Which scents do you gravitate to?

Perhaps you find yourself most interested in, say, woody scents because they conjure up memories of a wonderful wilderness trip. Or maybe floral fragrances connect you to time spent in the garden, or to a favorite aunt’s embrace, or to a trip to steamy Hawaii, or to memories of a corsage secured to your wrist. People with an adventurous spirit often find spicy scents to their liking. Others swoon for delectable, edible aromas. Only your nose knows. Follow it through our Thymes Fragrance Studio, and you’re likely to find a new favorite. Our hope is that you will discover an array of fresh, engaging fragrances, with the confidence to explore them in person and to offer them as gifts.
