From Dollop to Dewy: All About Thymes Moisturizers

It’s high noon of summer. How’s your skin holding up? If you’ve been using Thymes lotions, your answer is likely a resounding, “Great!”

That’s because Thymes takes fastidious care in formulating our lotions and creams not only to moisturize, condition and protect your skin, but also to elevate your skin care to the best possible experience.

This experience starts with every application of a Thymes moisturizer. Next time you pump a Thymes dispenser, notice how the lotion glistens and reflects the light, creating a soft peak—not a river that runs through your fingertips. Pay attention to how smoothly it glides on; there is no “dragging” feel across your skin. And note its rapid absorption and lack of a tacky or sticky sensation.

Or, in the case of a cream, observe how a richly emollient dollop targets your trouble areas, be they hands, heels, elbows or other rough patches. And, for both lotions and creams, how your favorite fragrance lasts throughout the day like a reassuring halo.

Those vital qualities are hallmarks of Thymes moisturizers, according to Cindy Andersen, Vice President of Operations and Research and Development.

“Our lotions are really known for having a non-greasy after-feel when they’re rubbed in,” she says. “They don’t get all starchy and sticky and tacky. They stay smooth.”

Each product goes through as many as four iterations before—or if—it is to wear Thymes on the label.

Much of the magic happens in our own in-house laboratory, where all of our proprietary formulas are developed. There, a formula goes through as many as four iterations before—or if—it is to wear Thymes on the label.

For instance, all Thymes products must prove they can endure a three-month stability test that mimics rigorous environmental conditions—at room temperature, high-summer heat, through freeze/thaw cycles and sustained exposure to sunlight—without compromising their feel and, as important, the signature quality of their fragrance.

“We’re testing for the integrity of our product formulas,” Cindy says. “We want a true fragrance experience” no matter what.

Thanks to a companywide commitment against animal testing, Thymes staff members double as testers to ensure products are safe for consumer use (after, of course, each formula meets regulatory standards). All while being paraben-free.

Common moisturizing ingredients include ultra-conditioning shea butter, exfoliating alpha-hydroxy acids, nourishing vitamins C and E, skin-smoothing glycerin, glistening honey and nutrient-rich olive oil.

Cindy, who counts Eucalyptus Body Lotion among her favorites, also praises our recently launched Bergamot Vert AHA Body Lotion for its enticingly bright scent and skin-softening powers. Not surprisingly, almost every Thymes team member has a favorite moisturizer.

“There’s a lot to it,” Cindy says. “It’s the tactile experience. The fragrance experience. The feel on your skin after you use it. The scent that you experience throughout the day.” All that, while also moisturizing your skin.
